Tide Closes Out Maui Invitational with 17-Point Win

In their final game of the Maui Invitational, Alabama defeated the Providence Friars 88-71 in the 5th place consolation game. After a slow start the Tide responded quickly, with Herb Jones & Jaden Shackelford leading the charge. After not being able to find their shots against Stanford, the Tide was stroking it behind the arc, shooting 41% today from 3. Perimeter defense was also very important today, holding the Friars to 22% from behind the arc.

The Tide had key contributions from multiple areas, including Josh Primo contributing 15 points and 3 rebounds. The 17 year-old freshman has been getting more comfortable in the game, earning more playing time off the bench. John Petty, Jr. scored 16 points and grabbed 5 boards, also while creating multiple opportunities for the offense and the shooters on the perimeter. My player of the game is Herbert Jones, who put in probably his best all-around game in Asheville, putting 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists, also grabbing 2 steals. Most importantly, his leadership has proved critical for the Tide, leading the squad on both ends of the floor.

The Tide finishes 2-1 in the Maui Invitational, finishing 5th, and Providence finishes 6th. The Tide gets a nice break before heading to Atlanta to take on Clemson in the Holiday Hoopsgiving Tournament.

Next Game: vs. Clemson (Holiday Hoopsgiving, Atlanta, Georgia) - 12/12/2020 (ESPN)
