Alabama (5-3) is coming off of a good second half in their last game against ETSU which ended up being a 16 point win. This was a game in which the Tide were without two starters (Petty and Rojas). Both players are expected to be back for this game after they served a one game suspension according to Nate Oats. Alabama will need every player available if it wants to beat a really good defensive-minded team like Ole Miss. The Rebels come in at no. 1 in the country in opponents’ PPG (according to TeamRankings) and no. 10 in opponents’ assists per game. They also hold opponents to a low shooting % overall (35.8%) and more specifically from inside the arc (37.4%). This does not bode well for an Alabama team who has struggled to shoot the ball through their first 8 games. Obviously Alabama will need to get in a rhythm early and hit their shots if they want to win, but a key to watch in this game will be rebounding. Ole Miss doesn’t allow many offensive RPG (5.8) or defensive RPG (19.2). They’re ranked in the top 20 in both categories. Alabama is not a terrible rebounding team overall averaging 10.8 offensive RPG and 24.4 defensive RPG, but they will need to be even better this game and take advantage of the rebounds they do get by putting points on the board.
Ole Miss Players to Watch:
F Romello White (11.5 PPG, 1.5 APG, 6.7 RPG)
G Devontae Shuler (14.8 PPG, 3.8 APG, 2.3 RPG)
F KJ Buffen (9.7 PPG, 1.5 APG, 4.3 RPG)
G/F Luis Rodriguez (9 PPG, 3 APG, 8.5 RPG)
G Jarkel Joiner (8.3 PPG, 1.3 APG, 1.8 RPG)
Through eight games, Alabama has not been able to find much consistency on either side of the ball. There have been flashes of what this team could be, but nothing more than that. Alabama will not reach its full potential until it starts hitting shots, especially from deep, and this may not be the game where they will get going against a really good defensive team.
