2020 5-star Nimari Burnett was interviewed today by graphic editor Tipton Edits (via Instagram live) with the topic being his Final 4 schools-- Alabama, Texas Tech, Oregon, and Michigan. Here’s what Burnett had to say about the Tide:
On his recent official visit to the Capstone,
“It went well. They really made me a priority […] Coach [Nate] Oats, Coach Bryan [Hodgson]. I had a great time out there. They showed me I was important to their program. They showed me I could help start something or even help continue to win because they’ll have a good team this year.”
On what intrigues him about Alabama,
“Definitely their playing style. They get up after it defensively, offensively. […] I like to play in a fast-paced offense, and they have a good coaching staff and good players who compliment my game over there.”
On his relationship with Head Coach Nate Oats and Assistant Coach Bryan Hodgson,
“We talk a lot; almost every other day. We definitely have a good relationship. Out of the four schools they definitely have recruited me the longest—Coach Bryan is really involved as well so we have a good relationship.”
On his relationship with current players—and has he talked to recruits about teaming up at Alabama?
“I definitely talk to Jaden Shackelford, Kira Lewis … Isaiah [Jackson] as well about teaming up. You know I always want to play with good players because that’s mostly how you win. I hit him up about the possibility of me going there and him going there as well.”
Burnett, a 6-3 180lbs Combo-Guard from Chicago, IL and currently of Prolific Prep HS (CA), will commit sometime before his birthday on December 20th. In recent months, The Crimson Tide have been considered favorites by many to land the talented guard. Lately, however, much of buzz surrounding Burnett’s quiet recruitment has been centered around Chris Beard’s Texas Tech team and Dana Altman’s Oregon squad. Nate Oats and company will hope to hold off the two programs, in addition to Michigan, as the Tide look to land one of the nations’ biggest uncommitted prospects.
Furthermore, previously mentioned 2020 5-star PF Isaiah Jackson of Waterford Mott HS (MI) will announce his commitment on November 15-16th (exact date still TBD) and is down to a final three of Alabama, Kentucky and Syracuse. This is seen as a likely battle between the Tide and Wildcats. All three schools have done their due diligence in Jackson’s recruitment and will fight to the end in hopes of landing arguably the best defender in the 2020 class.
