BREAKING: Four-Star Guard Rylan Griffen Commits To Alabama

Alabama has now landed its fifth commitment of the 2022 signing class, and fourth in the last week, in four-star guard Rylan Griffen from Richardson, Texas. The addition of Griffen now ranks Alabama as the fourth ranked class, but this does not include the commitment of JUCO forward Nick Pringle as he does not yet have a composite ranking. Griffen ranks as the 63rd player nationally and the 6th ranked shooting guard.

Rylan is a player that is bound to outplay his ranking by the time his playing days are over. Griffen described his game in a September interview with Crimson Crossover as a scorer and if you watch any game film on him it is easy to see that he is exactly that. He is a three-level scorer who has potential to become a big-time tough shot maker. He has a light frame, but he is an extremely explosive player which helps him make up for that. He has great length as well which will help him impact the game at the defensive end and gives him the tools to become a high-level defender who will only improve as he continues to add strength. His shooting percentages could improve, but I do believe him being in a system that doesn’t rely on him to always be the go-to scorer will bump those percentages up a bit and help him be an efficient scorer once he gels at the college level. Where he currently will thrive and seamlessly transition to the college game is driving to the basket and playing in transition. If he is given a path to the rim, he is bound to make a highlight worthy play and finish at the rim. He is a bouncy guard who is capable of dunking on anyone in his path or pulling off a crafty layup to finish at the rim. His shot making from the outside is what will determine his true potential on offense, but he does project to be one of the better shooters to come out of the class.

He mentioned to me in September that he wanted to attend a school where he gets the chance to play through mistakes early on and I think this will be key for his development. He has limitless upside on the offensive end and him learning from his own mistakes and finding ways to improve through that will allow him to tap into that potential. All-in-all Griffen is a huge get for the Alabama staff in what has become a monster 2022 signing class. You can never have enough high-level scorers in the style that Alabama plays, and Griffen will bring that to the table with plenty of potential on both ends to continue to grow into a high level player for the Tide.
