Alabama head coach Nate Oats and his staff dominated the recruiting trail in their first full cycle, recently closing out on a Top 10 class nationally. Let’s take a deep dive into our current 2021 board and some possible scenarios for the Tide.
We’ve sorted most, if not all, of Alabama’s targets into four categories – Contenders, In the mix, We’ll see and Longshots. Before reading this piece, acknowledge things can change -- just because we’ve listed someone as a contender doesn’t mean we predict and/or expect Alabama to land them (and vice versa).
Alabama appears to be in a great position for this group of prospects, but five-star JD Davison and Charles Bediako standout above the rest. Rivals analyst Eric Bossi listed Alabama as the No. 1 contender for Bediako, stating: “Nate Oats and his program have ample playing time available and they’ve done a great job of surrounding [his] recruitment and covering all their bases with him.”
I recently put out a piece on the recruitment of Wesley Cardet, the Crimson Tide have conduced another virtual visit with the highly-coveted guard since then. He doesn’t plan to announce a college decision anytime soon but it currently looks as if Alabama is in good position.

In the mix:
The coaching staff has put time into these prospects, as some might see the Tide as “Contenders” in their individual recruitment. Moussa Diabate and Hunter Sallis are the most well-known out of this group, I see Alabama as potential dark horse candidates for both Top-20 prospects respectfully. Sallis recently mentioned Alabama as a program going after him hard, stating: “I just really like that playing style. I’ve been watching a couple of their guys and I feel like how they play is really similar to how I play as well […] I feel like I could excel there.”
A majority of these prospects received offers this summer and could potentially be included in the two groups above soon. Langston Wilson is the most recent offer, the JUCO product was offered by the Tide on Tuesday and continues to gain high-major interest. Four-star Michael James recently included Alabama in his final list of ten schools, the 6'6" forward has major interest from Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, among others.
These prospects have received interest from the coaching staff but seem farfetched, and/or Alabama doesn’t appear to be pursuing overly hard. Carter Whitt, the Top-100 guard has picked up major steam nationally but Alabama’s current involvement is unclear. Four-star Daimion Collins is currently trending towards Texas and Oklahoma State, I wouldn't bank on the Tide signing either.
