Alabama (7-6) and Miss State (9-4) are both coming into Wednesday night’s game with an 0-1 record in the SEC after tough losses. The Tide are coming off of a double OT loss at Florida while the Bulldogs lost to Auburn. Needless to say, both of these teams will likely come into this game hungry for a win. These teams will both have a challenge on their hands, though, as they have much different styles of play. Alabama averages 81.5 possessions per game while Miss State only averages 68.5 per game (according to TeamRankings). This has led to Alabama becoming the third highest scoring team in the country, averaging 83.9 PPG. Miss State averages about 10 less PPG than that with 73.2. The areas that Miss State has an edge are FG%, TOs, and defensive PPG. They shoot 46.8% compared to Bama’s 44.2%, turn the ball over about 2 less times per game (14.8 to 16.5), and hold their opponents to 65 PPG compared to Alabama’s 79.7 PPG. If Alabama wants to win this game, they’re going to have to step up defensively while maintaining their hot streak offensively. Giving up almost 80 PPG isn’t going to win a lot of games in the SEC.
Key Players to Watch:
F Reggie Perry- 15.8 PPG, 10 RPG, 2.5 APG
G Tyson Carter- 14.5 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 4.0 APG
G Robert Woodard- 11.8 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 1.5 APG
Alabama will come into this game with a chip on their shoulder ready to prove the naysayers wrong and pick up a good win at home. Kira Lewis shakes off the rust from the previous game and leads the Tide to a solid victory and Nate Oats picks up his first SEC win as the Alabama head coach.
