After a tough night against LSU Wednesday night, Alabama looks to bounce back against Arkansas on Saturday night. Alabama lost to the 22nd ranked LSU Tigers 90-76, in a game that saw the Tide shoot a porous 26% from downtown, in addition to struggling on the boards which led to more opportunities for the Tigers. Freshman Jaden Shackelford led the Tide with 21 points and 3 rebounds. Arkansas brings in a physical brand of basketball with solid guard play and disciplined defense, with Junior Guard Mason Jones as one of the unquestioned leaders of the team. The Razorbacks averages 74 PPG, which ranks 107th out of the 353 D1 teams, and only allows 64 PPG. However, they do struggle defensively in transition, which the Tide can take advantage of with Kira Lewis Jr and John Petty. The Tide have struggled to rebound as of late, more notably in the 77-74 victory over Kansas State, where the Wildcats had 31 more shot attempts than the Tide as a result of ineffectiveness on the glass. For the Tide to win today, they will have to show more energy to attack the boards and run in transition.
Key Players to Watch:
Junior Guard Mason Jones - 19.2 PPG, 6.4 RPG
Sophomore Guard Isaiah Joe - 16.8 PPG, 4.5 RPG
Senior Guard Jimmy Whitt - 14.9 PPG, 5.0 RPG
With 90s night tonight and the 1989-90 team being honored at halftime, expect the crowd to be a big factor tonight. John Petty struggled against LSU, not hitting a single 3 pointer. Look for him to have a bounce-back game. Arkansas will get their fair share of points, but I expect Kira Lewis and Jaden Shackelford to get more of their fair share, too, and ultimately I see them leading the Tide to a Quadrant 2 resume win.
Alabama - 79
Arkansas - 73
