On February 13th, Alabama hosted the Georgia Bulldogs and set a program record for points scored against an SEC opponent with 115. The Tide won 115-82, and the game was never in question. The Bulldogs get a chance at revenge after this game was added to the schedule shortly after the first meeting. In the four games Alabama has played since then, they are averaging 70.5 PPG, which is definitely a concern. The good thing about this team is they have the ability to turn things around offensively at any moment and they are a very good defensive team so that is always going to keep them in a game even when they are in an offensive slump. On the year, Alabama is shooting the ball and making 35.2% of their threes, 42.8% of their shots overall. Many of these shots are coming from deep as they attempt approximately 30 and make around 11 per game. When the Tide shoots at a high level like that, they are very hard to beat. As mentioned earlier, Alabama’s defense will keep them in every game, though. Their defense ranks top 20 in opponent effective FG%, opponent 3 point %, and opponent shooting efficiency. Alabama is also ranked 31st in opponents shooting % and 74th in opponents 2 point % while allowing an average of 70 PPG. So when Alabama’s shots are not falling, it is highly likely that their opponent’s shot will not be falling either. As we all saw in the last game, Georgia could not stop Alabama’s offense and the Bulldogs have not shown any reason to believe they will in the second meeting. Alabama fans should not expect Nate Oats’ squad to go out and score 115 again, but Georgia is still a poor defensive team statistically and it shows on the court. The Bulldogs are not ranked in the top 117 in a single defensive category. If Georgia is not careful, Alabama could make those defensive statistics look even worse.
Georgia Players to Watch:
G Sahvir Wheeler (13.8 PPG, 4 RPG, 7.1 APG)
G K.D. Johnson (13.4 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 1.3 APG)
F Toumani Camara (12.7 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 1.7 APG)
Alabama will not score 115 points again, but the Tide will go on the road and pick up a win in their final regular season game without too much adversity. They will finally get out of that offensive slump against a bad defensive team and will beat the Bulldogs by double digits.
