Alabama comes into Tuesday night’s game against South Alabama with a 2-0 record for the first time in the Nate Oats era. Not only that, but the Tide are averaging 98.5 PPG and have picked up 2 quality wins over potential NCAA tournament teams in Louisiana Tech and South Dakota State. South Alabama comes in at 1-1 having scored 58 and 102 points in their first two games. Alabama obviously is the more talented team, but the Jaguars have a nice group of transfers this season that will help them at least be competitive. This early in the season with only 2 games being played for each team, it’s hard to look at stats and get a 100% accurate look at what each team is showing on the court so far, but it’s better than nothing at all. The first thing I noticed about South Alabama is they play at a slower pace than the Tide coming in at 246th in the country with 69.7 possessions per game. Alabama is at 77.5 per game. Both teams are shooting the ball pretty well overall but Alabama also leads this category 49.3% to 44.4%. The key to this game will come down to offensive rebounding. Alabama’s offensive rebounding % is 38.8% (32nd). The Jaguars are almost last in the country with 9.7% (348th). South Alabama will have to pick up a few more of those and take advantage of them or they’ll fall behind quickly.

South Alabama Players to Watch:

F Javon Franklin (15 PPG, 10.5 RPG)

G Jay Jay Chandler (14.5 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 2 APG)

G Charles Manning Jr. (13 PPG, 4 RPG)

F Kayo Goncalves (11 PPG, 2.5 RPG)

The talent Alabama has along with their depth and pace of play will be way too much for the Jaguars to keep up with. Alabama will start to find their groove about 10 minutes into the game and will never look back.

Alabama- 96

South Alabama - 72
