Really haven’t heard much at all on that. Last we heard tho the coaches were confident and felt like he had a good case. Then I’ve seen a couple other players be granted waivers this summer, so I’m feeling decent about it
@aterry65@mistaken4193 I think Oats and Co. thought he had a good chance, but then the NCAA tightened some of their guidelines for granting eligibility. So he's still got a good chance, just not as good as I would've guessed a couple months ago. Seems likely we won't hear anything on it until right before the season starts.
In the very worst case scenario, he's at least upping the caliber of our practices.
If you listen to Oats' interviews, it seems pretty obvious that Reese will start at the 5 and Rojas will be the "stretch 4" that Oats loves in his system. Kira obviously starts at point. Which leaves a combo of Herb/Petty/Q/Beetle for the 2 and 3; depending on who is eligible and who we are playing/match-ups.
This is my guess for game one. Would not surprise me at all to see Herb starting in Reese's place, or Rojas starting at the 4 due to his familiarity with Oats. I have Galin starting because Oats seems to mention him in every interview he gives, normally saying something to the effect of "he's a guy that's going to force his way into playing time." This team feels like it has 7-8 players that could start, which is a good problem to have.
I agree. There’s just so many combinations I could see working and so much could change between now and then season. I really hope JQ gets that waiver...
@aterry65 JQ would allow Oats to follow his personal blueprint by playing two true point-guards, Oats himself has said that Beetle is more of a SG type.
Exactly. My only question is will JQ be ready physically and mentally after such a disappointing season last year and after having to go through the NCAA/FBI mess. I just hope his mind is good and ready to go. If he has to sit a a year, that could also be a positive for him. Either way we’ll be fine
It’s going to be very hard to keep Galin Smith out of the lineup.
Mine is:
Kira
Petty
Herb
Reese
Galin
"It's going to be very hard to keep Galin Smith out of the lineup."
Kira Petty Herb Reese Galin Think Quinerly will start if he’s eligible
Kira
JQ(If eligible)/Beetle if Not
Petty
Rojas
Reese
Lol just realized I had the same as you
Kira,
Beetle,
Petty,
Herb,
Galin
I like this. I could see this for sure.
Kira
JQ/Beetle
Petty
Rojas
Reese
I feel like Reese at the 5 could actually happen. May not happen game 1, but I could see it, and I’d love that
What is the general feeling about Quinerly being eligible? Coaches still confident?

If JQ isn’t eligible
Kira
Petty
Herb
Reese or Rojas
Smith
I think you will see
1) Kira
2) JQ (if eligible) (if not eligible Beetle)
3) Petty
4) Herb
5) Fleming
Can’t wait to see Flem on the court!
Kira
Petty
Herb
Reese
Galin
Jelly’s eligibility will be something to watch because that would throw a huge wrench into the starting lineup
I think this is the lineup for the first few games. I can definitely see Beetle or one of the freshmen starting several games throughout the season
I just hope Beetle can stay injury-free

1. Kira
2. JQ/Beetle if ineligible
3. Petty
4. Reese
5. Galin
First man off bench: Herb

My starting 5:
Jelly (If Eligible)
Kira
Petty
Rojas
JFD
Unstoppable!!
First of all I do not think Quinerly will start if he is eligible.
My starting 5
Kira
Beetle
Petty
Herb
Reese
Yeah it isn’t a guarantee he’d start if he’s eligible. That’s a good lineup
I think everybody is overhyping Jelly. Definitely would pair deadeye shooter Beetle with Kira over unproved Quinerly.
