One might think it is silly and not a basketball related activity to do all the boot camp style training like what the team did this week, but I want to write about why it's encouraging.
While talent is king, I think that the cohesivness/brotherhood of any team is an underrated aspect of winning games. That can be the difference in diving for a loose ball in a late game situation or giving it all in windsprints at practice. The thought of fighting hard/woking hard for your teammate typically is a more motivating factor than for oneself, especially in a sports environment. I really am glad to see that, not only for the players, but to have the coaching staff go through everything, really gives me hope that this won't be the same ole 'Bama Hoops that has broken our hearts over and over again.
I appreciate how Alabama has been in the conversation for a lot of these top 100 players for the upcoming year. Without that, its really hard to win on scheme and coaching alone. But, seeing that Coach Oats is not only talking the talk when it comes trying to build a new culture, but is on the ground floor, in the mud, walking the walk, thats as encouraging as I can ask for prior to a game being played.

Well said. I tweeted the other day in response to a few fans that questioned how “this would help put the ball in the hoop” or “make FTs.” I told them does the SEAL go through SEAL training to become a marksman? No, he’s already a marksman. He goes through the training so that he may trust himself and his brothers skills and abilities to put him in the right position to actually make the shot in the moment.
Couldn't agree more.
